Why Remove Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom teeth, also called third molars, usually appear in the late teens or early twenties. While some people experience no issues, problematic wisdom teeth can lead to more serious dental complications if left untreated. Our Middlebury dental team carefully evaluates each patient to recommend the best course of action. Potential issues may include:

Crowding of Other Teeth

Wisdom teeth can push against neighboring teeth and shift your smile out of alignment.
10

Pain or Discomfort

Pressure from eruption or impaction can lead to ongoing soreness, headaches, or jaw pain.
12

Infection or Gum Disease

Partially erupted wisdom teeth are hard to clean, trapping bacteria and causing inflammation or infection.
9

Damage to Adjacent Teeth

Impacted wisdom teeth can press into nearby molars, wearing away enamel or causing decay.
